Toe Fracture Overview

Symptoms & Causes

Toe fracture symptoms include:

• A visible anatomical deformity
• Bruising
• Severe pain
• Swelling
• Throbbing pain

Common toe fracture causes are:

• A heavy object falling on the toe
• High impact sports
• Kicking an object

Common Treatments:

Nonsurgical treatment options are used to treat many toe fractures. After a thorough evaluation, a CONA foot and ankle specialist may recommend:

• A hard-soled shoe
• A walking boot
• Pain and anti-inflammatory medications Orthotics
• Rest, ice, compression, elevation (RICE)

Surgery may be recommended to treat severely broken toes. A CONA foot and ankle specialist aligns and fixates the broken bone.
